Recently Star Wars: The Force Awakens broke pretty much every box office record in existence.
That got me thinking about all the other movies that broke records like Avatar, The Avengers, and Jurassic World. And I started to wonder what the most popular movies of all-time were…
I put the box office numbers aside, because as many people head to the movies on a Friday night even more are sitting at home watching the latest movie online.
The most popular movies of all-time
If you saw my post about the most popular books of all-time you’ll know that Amazon has undisclosed sorting features. What exactly does that mean?
Well, if you were to head over to Amazon and pull up every movie you could rent or buy, you’d get a list of over 100,000 movies. That’s great, but they can only be sorted by “Featured” or “Newest Arrivals.”
That’s not what we want.
We want the most popular. Or, which movies are getting the most reviews or the most buzz?
This is where I had to get a little creative. If you look at the URL you’ll notice Amazon has a built in sort function.
Again, we don’t want “Featured Rank.”
So, I tried several other sorts (just by guessing labels) and found one called “sort=review-count-rank.” And here’s what it shows…
Notice on the far right side how they are now sorted in descending order of review counts?
This is what we want!
I won’t keep you waiting any longer, because if you love movies as much as I do, you’ll want to start browsing the most popular on Amazon (finally!).
What about the highest rated movies of all-time?
What if you don’t want to see the movies with the most reviews, but the movies with the highest review rating?
No problemo. I’ve got you covered.
Be sure to let me know (in the comments below) what movies you ended up watching for the first time after checking out these lists!
