Picking apples at the Kiyokawa Apple Orchard in Central Oregon.

This past weekend I was lucky enough to spend most of my Friday picking apples at Kiyokawa Orchards in Central Oregon. It was nothing extremely spectacular like some of my other adventures, but the moment I stepped on that land I couldn’t help but just smile.

I was picking apples left and right (Honey Crisp are my favorite!), filling our Radio Flyer wagon full of apples for apple pie, apple dumplings, and apple crisps.

That’s when I realized something.

This is Why I Work Hard

As I was standing outside underneath the simple green leaves, walking beside some of the largest apples I’ve ever seen, it really began to dawn on me that this is why I work hard. This is why I work 10, 12, and sometimes 15 hour days. Just being able to spend the day in the beautiful outdoors, sharing new moments with my wife…this is the stuff my dreams are made of.

(This is a Hanners Jumbo Apple sitting at my wife’s feet; it was huge!)

There are of course other dreams I have. For instance I’d love to coach high school baseball, open a rock gym in my home town, attend Wimbledon or the French Open, ski Mt. Fuji, and tons of other stuff.

But, is having dreams good or bad?

All Men of Action are Dreamers

I once read that, “All men of action are dreamers.” – James Huneker ()

The more I think about that quote the more I think how great would it be if all dreamers were men of action?

Almost every single writer I talk to got started because they had a dream. The problem is that everyone has dreams, but not everyone takes action.

We are exactly 280 days into 2015 and I know a lot of you made some pretty bold plans way back in January.

But be honest, have you taken action? Have you really and truly given everything you’ve got for the last 280 days to bring yourself closer to your dreams?

Personally I know that I can work harder.

While I haven’t been working as hard as I can, I also know that having tangible dreams will keep me focused, which leads me to another question.

Have you been honest about your dreams?

I could rattle off statistic after statistic about pursuing your dreams, but it really comes down to one thing…

Are you willing to make sacrifices and take massive action?

If not then you don’t have dreams, you have wishes and unfortunately wishes very seldom come true.
